Week 2 of the UFL season is in the books and the Birmingham Stallions have strengthened their claim as the top team in the league.
The Stallions picked up where they left off last season, improving their record to 2-0 as their formidable defensive line held the Michigan Panthers to only 14 points.
“I thought our defense was stout,” Stallions head coach Skip Holtz said. “They gave up one big play that resulted in points. I thought defensively we played an excellent football game.”

Corn Elder scores on WILD 98-yard pick-six to give Roughnecks early lead vs. Defenders
Corn Elder scored on a 98-yard pick-six that gave the Houston Roughnecks’ an early lead over the DC Defenders.
FOX Sports college football analyst RJ Young credits Holtz’s unique offensive system as a key factor in their success.
“In each of his previous two USFL championship seasons, Holtz steadily played his former QB at Louisiana Tech, J’Mar Smith, alongside eventual starter and 2023 MVP Alex McGough until one player separated from the other,” Young wrote.
“Heading into this season and into Week 2, Holtz kept his word that Ole Miss product Matt Corral and Nebraska standout Adrian Martinez would both play. Each made plays that led to the Birmingham win.”
Dropping on the oddsboard were the DC Defenders, who saw their odds lengthen from +400 to +700. The Defenders opened the season with the second-lowest odds of winning the title.
Despite their tumble, Young is a fan of the Defenders defense and bumped them up from sixth to fourth in his weekly power rankings.
“Behind the arm of Jordan Ta’amu, the Defenders scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to secure their first win of the season,” Young wrote. “Despite giving the ball back to Houston with just under two minutes remaining and in plus-territory, the Defenders defense held strong. It allowed just three total third-down conversions in 13 attempts in Week 2, and Ta’amu put together another 200-yard passing performance, averaging 12.7 yards per completion in the win.”
